At Hugel’s historic cellars—some dating back to 1551—oak wine casks crafted over a century ago by the ancestors of today’s Hugel family line the walls. Among these storied barrels sits the Sainte Caterine, the world’s oldest cask still in use, with a remarkable capacity of 8,800 liters. Built in 1715, the year of Louis XIV’s passing, this legendary cask exemplifies the depth of history at this iconic Alsatian estate.
