About the Single Vineyard Series
For our series of vineyard designate wines, we’ve drawn small lots of fruit from the best of our estate vineyard sites. Available in very small amounts, these wines showcase the extraordinary individual character of each vineyard’s terroir and clonal selections.
The Vineyard
Our Oakview Vineyard is located in the heart of Napa Valley in the highly acclaimed Oakville District AVA. Boasting a perfect microclimate of foggy mornings and reliably warm and sunny afternoons, the district is world-famous for its superior Cabernet Sauvignons. We have farmed this vineyard for over thirty years. Deep alluvial clay loam soils encourage the vines to be deeply rooted without being overly vigorous. The grapes ripen evenly, yielding sumptuous wines of great elegance and refined power, worthy of this prestigious wine region.
The Vintage
A near-perfect growing season kicked off with consistent winter rains followed by cool spring weather. Bud break arrived late with a smaller fruit set, mostly due to significant rain during bloom in May for a slightly below average crop yield. A slow and steady summer growing season with no heat spikes and little rain during harvest set the stage for ideal maturity and balance. This vintage we were able to achieve full phenolic flavor development along with ideal ripeness, making for an exceptional vintage. As always, we harvested in the early morning hours during the coolest part of the day to preserve flavor and balance.
Tasting Notes
Sleek and sophisticated in style, this classic Oakville cabernet opens with its signature rich aromas of ripe blueberries, red currant and crème de cassis with a backdrop of fresh pine needles, warm leather, sandalwood and star anise. Layered and complex, waves of blueberry compote, baked red plum, boysenberry crisp, and blackberry coulis emerge from the glass; balanced by tobacco, leather, and five spice with notes of dusty graphite and fine-grained tannins elongating the finish. Drink now through 2032.
