93 rated by James suckling Valdelacierva Reserva Rioja is a cherry red colour. The nose is intense, complex and harmonious with black fruit and mineral notes that are typical of Rioja Alavesa. There are also hints of spice, toffee and a slightly smokey background hint. The wine has a sweetish attack and is broad on the palate. There are more black fruit notes, blackcurrant and a hint of vanilla. The wine is velvety and rich yet structured and elegant at the same time. Good, persistent finish.
A lovely example of the incredible value of well-made and aged Tempranillo.
